However, Cade was always a mischievous child, always playing pranks on his family and friends and was often caught stealing from neighboring farms when he wanted some kind of tasty treat that his parents wouldn't give him. At the age of 15 he ran away from the strict rules and beliefs of home to find his own way. He left extremely early one morning, right before dawn and went off to explore. He barely made a living, just stealing enough to live off of and taking only from those who looked as though they had more than their fair share. He found his being extremely dexterous allowed him a great advantage in the "real world" and also that his higher than average charisma helped him convince people to give him some handouts or to coax his way into a warm bed for a night. He eventually joined a rogue's guild where they helped teach him to refine his skills so that he could make a better living for himself. While he was there, he began learning from the other rogues of other gods and religions. None really interested him until later however. One rainy night, he was breaking his way into a farmer's barn to get out of the nasty weather and have a nice warm bale of hay to sleep in for a night. After an hour or so, the farmer who owned the barn came out to check on the animals, and when he saw Cade he threatened to use his Scythe to cut Cade a new one for trespassing. Cade quickly tried to explain himself and talk the enraged farmer down a bit, but the farmer refused to listen. The farmer lunged towards Cade, but Cade was too fast. He dove under the farmer's legs and stabbed him in the back of the ankle with his dagger, knocking the farmer over. Adrenaline took over and he continued to stab the fallen farmer until he died. After he realized what he had done, Cade was somewhat horrified, for this was the first time he's ever used his dagger in violence. Surprisingly though, he felt a strange rush from it. He got a weird high he's never had before at the death of another by his hand. He quickly grabbed his things and started to run away from the scene when he noticed these extremely nice leather gloves on the farmer's hands. He looked at his own gloves, which were old and worn from months of abuse. and quickly switched gloves with the corpse. When he put on the farmer's gloves he noticed that they gave him greater dexterity than before. He also took the farmer's money pouch, which he found out to be a bag of holding. He then quickly left the barn, and kept running all night to get as far away as possible. As he ran, Cade remembered how he heard of a guild of hired assassins, that would take jobs to murder people, and he decided that this is what he should do for a living in order to keep the rush he had just felt. He went back to the guilds, looking for how one could get into this profession. However, he vowed to himself that he would never kill someone in cold blood again without just reason, nor would he take any jobs to kill women or children. After a few weeks, he finally found the information he needed. He just had to kill a single person with no motive other than to join the assassins. The member of the assassins that was to give him his initiative target adventured with Cade for a few days, looking for the perfect victim. The assassin picked out the least likely of victims, a female Paladin of the god Heironeous. The paladin was a female, had extremely exquisite looking armor, a long sword, and silvery skin. Cade protested the choice with great disgust at the thought of having to kill a women, let alone a fighter for truth and justice. He didn't care that he had to kill someone that didn't deserve death, everyone's gotta die sometime, but it was the fact that he had to kill a female who was a servent of a God. He hated and feared gods. When told he had to follow through on the choice of the initiating assassin, he eventually gave in and began studying and stalking the Paladin. He found out her name was Seraphina. She was visiting the city with a party of adventurers, all whom had bizarre physical traits much like hers. She was in the town for a few weeks while her party had some special items being crafted at a local shop and to relax after their latest adventure. The assassin assigned to his initiation followed Cade from the shadows as if he was the one doing the stalking and as if Cade were his prey. While disconcerning at first, Cade became used to it and eventually forgot about his presense. After about a week Cade finally made his move on Seraphina. Surprisingly to Cade, it was a quick and swift kill. He caught her by surprise outside the tavern late one night while the rest of her party was inside getting drunk. He somehow managed to do grave damage with a few quick blows while dodging her few return attacks. "Congratulations, Cade" the assassin surprised Cade as he stepped out from the shadows, "You're in. Strip the body of any goodies the bitch might have and let's get out of here before we're caught." He quickly removed her armor, took some GP, and any other items she had on her, shoving them in his bag of holding. He then followed the assassin back to the assassin's guild to finalize the initiation into the assassins. At the initiation ceremony, he was given a decorative assassin's dagger with his guild's insignia carved on the hilt and was given new robes as well. That night when he went to his room in the guild to get a good night's sleep before his first mission, he decided to check out his haul from the paladin that he killed. Cade felt horrible for what he had done, but he saw it as a necessary evil. He could have a better life for himself now and regain that feeling he got when he offed the farmer that started this whole ordeal. The first item he pulled out was her exquisite armor and he was extremely surprised by what he saw. The armor he was holding, looked exactly the same as what he took off her body, but she was human... and the armor looked as if it was sized for a halfling or maybe a gnome. He put this aside, still trying to decide what to do with it. The other items he just decided to sell, he had no real use for them. The next morning, when Cade woke up, he decided that he should keep the armor, as his was just ratty old leather that didn't do much good. Anything had to be better than that, even if it required some gold to get the new armor fitted. He quickly tried it on and was surprised him how light it was for it's size and how flexible he was in it. The armor didn't seem to hamper his movements at all. He was also astonished at how well it fit. It felt as if it was made specifically for him. The one thing he didn't quite enjoy was the somewhat good aura the armor seemed to give off. It gave him a disconcerning feeling that reminded him of home. He hated that feeling, but this was a small price to pay for what seemed to be such perfect armor. He put on his cloak, trying to cover up as much of the silvery armor as he could as to not attract attention to himself. After a bit he finally got ready to receive his first mission. It was to get rid of a royal diplomat that was embezzling money from the crown. He liked this. A kill that was just and deserved by the victim, a nice change from killing an unsuspecting paladin. Cade spent a few days studying his prey, stalking him wherever he went. Finally, it was time to do the job. He broke into the diplomat's house and hid in a corner of his bedroom, waiting for him to return for the night. It was shortly after midnight when it happened. Cade surprised the man just as he was entering the room and put him out quickly and quietly with his new dagger. However, something bizarre happened. Just as his victim fell, Cade's armor began to feel extremely funny. It seemed to be getting slightly heavier and the assassin's dagger in his hand seemed to be getting extremely hot He instinctively tried to drop the dagger but the bracers of his armor stretched around his wrist and hand seemingly grabbing the dagger before it could fall. Suddenly the dagger began to meld into the bracer as it expanded covering the top and tips of his fingers and the back of his hands, leaving the gloves exposed on his palms and bottom of his fingers keeping his maneuverability. The dagger seemed to form realistic looking claws on the tips of each finger as the armor's once bright silvery color to a shiny pure black color. His guild's insignia was now engraved into the armor that covered the back of each hand. The biggest advantage in Cade's eyes, however, was that he didn't seem to notice the good aura coming from the armor any more either but rather it seemed more naturally fitting for him to wear. The last thing he noticed was that the rush he got when he killed the farmer that dreadful night returned and he liked that feeling. As with past killings, he quickly removed the body of anything that looked valuable. In this case it was some nice soft leather boots and a grey cloth hooded cloak, as well as a small golden ring. He later found out that these items were Boots and a Cloak of Elvenkind, and a +1 Ring of Protection. Over the next year Cade made quite a name for himself in the assassins. He still stuck to his code of needing a good reason to kill someone, and refused to take any jobs that involved killing women, or children. While he didn't like taking jobs from people who were looking to just kill people for no reason, he could be bribed into doing it anyway. Whether it was gold, political favors, or items, Cade would take just about anything as payment, even payment in trade work such as crafting the bow he now weilds. Cade generally doesn't have any problems with particular people, but takes great offense to short jokes. "It is not wise to taunt one skilled in the art of death," he'd quote before attacking the perpetrator although sometimes it was just to get a scare out of them. However, guards have started becoming an increasing problem if he stays in one place for too long. Cade has a general distrust and despise for the guards of most towns. Cade also began following the teachings of Nerull, the god of death, leaving a small calling card with Nerull's symbol, a bloody skull and scythe on his victims bodies. Some of his victims he's gotten some nice magical items from, but for the most part he leaves them as is. He eventually made enough gold to buy himself some nice items as well. He decided to hold back on the stealing and pillaging as much as he could as it was no longer for survival anymore, but still does it often enough to test his skills, especially on more worthy victims. He is currently between jobs and looking for whatever excitement might follow.
